Take Part in the BI Survey 11, and Have your Voice Heard
Every year we’re pleased to help publicise the BI Survey, an annual independent survey of BI tools customers organized by BARC. What’s good about the BI Survey is that it helps you understand what others using your favourite BI tool think of it, and where it’s useful and not so useful, and it’s also a good way to gauge how your BI tools are rated relative to the competition. There’s also sections on BI implementation approaches, tool selection and so forth, so it’s a good all-round survey of the BI tools marketplace (note that we have no financial or commercial interest or links to BARC, we just think they’re “good guys”).
Anyway, here’s the invite. Make sure you take part, so that there’s a good sample size for Oracle BI, EPM and OLAP tools in the survey:
“We would appreciate your participation in ‘The BI Survey 11: The Customer Verdict’, the world’s largest survey of business intelligence (BI) and performance management (PM) users.
Click the link below to take part:

As a participant, you will:
- Receive a summary of the results from the full survey
- Be entered into a draw to win one of ten $50 Amazon vouchers
- Ensure that your experiences are included in the final analyses
BARC’s annual survey gathers input from a large number of organizations to better understand their buying decisions, their implementation cycles and the benefits they achieve from using BI software. The BI Survey 11 is strictly vendor-independent: BARC does not accept vendor sponsorship of the Survey, and the results are analyzed and published without any vendor involvement.
You will be able to answer questions on your usage of a BI product from any vendor. Your answers will be used anonymously, and your personal details will never be passed on to vendors or other third parties. Business and technical users, as well as vendors and consultants, are all welcome to participate.
The BI Survey 11 should take about 25 minutes to complete. For further information, please contact Silke Hopf at BARC (shopf@barc.de).”
RittmanMead Webinar Series 2012
Mark and myself have been delivering webinars each week as part of the RittmanMead Webinar Series 2012. We’re a third of the way through the series now, with some really interesting sessions covering Exaytics, RPD development, and OBI change management.
Still to come are the following sessions:
- April 25th : OBIEE11g Security
- The security model in OBI 11g is closely integrated with that of the Fusion Middleware (FMW) stack, and differs significantly from that in 10g. This webinar explains the concepts involved, and what they mean in practice to the RPD developer and OBI Administrator.
- May 2nd : OBIEE11g Administration through EM and WLS
- This webinar is primarily for OBI Administrators and those responsible for the running of the system. It will demonstrate how to use the power of Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control (FMC) to monitor your OBI system and diagnose problems.
- May 23rd : OBIEE11g Action Framework
- The Action Framework was new in OBI 11g, and support the idea of Closed-Loop Analytics. This webinar is for end-users and developers alike, and will look at the different types of Actions, how reports can be made interactive, and how they can be scheduled through the use of Agents.
- May 30th : OBIEE11g KPIs and Scorecards
- This webinar is for any end-user or RPD developer wanting to get a solid understanding of the KPI and Scorecarding functionality that is available within OBI 11g. The principles of scorecarding will be covered, as well as the practical implementation within OBI.
Register now at a cost of just £250 per session.
Exalytics Test Drive – April 18th 2012 in London
Some people may have seen that Rittman Mead became the first partner in the UK to buy an Exalytics box in the Oracle newsletter, and as a result we can uniquely offer our customers and community the chance to get hands on with Exalytics to see how it really can help drive your BI capability with extreme performance.
We are about to start working on our first migrations to Exalytics, and we are offering free proofs of concepts for organizations and individuals interested in seeing the potential first hand.
We will also be running a series of events around the world giving people the chance to get hands on with Exalytics, and our first is due to happen in London on April 18th at Oracle’s office at 1 South Place, London, EC2M 2RB.
Places will be limited, but if you would like to sign up for this event please contact us at exalytics@rittmanmead.com.
We will be announcing more test drives and event in the coming weeks for the US and Europe so please keep an eye open for those.
Hope to see you on the 18th!

Real-Time BI with Kevin & Stewart: New internet “talk show”
Kevin McGinley and myself have created a new internet talk show, airing on YouTube and Vimeo, called “Real-Time BI with Kevin & Stewart”. Kevin, if you recall, is teaching the Master Class at the BI Forum this year, and I also interviewed him earlier this year about his role in leading the BI content committee at ODTUG Kscope 12.
The show really spawned out of Kevin’s head, and as he mentions on the first episode, he had the idea of having an “Oracle BI Talk Show” in the vein of a sports talk show or a politics talk show. We finally delivered the first episode, complete with technical glitches, which I think Kevin edited with an interesting bit of humor. The show is available on YouTube or Vimeo, and I think it’s a pretty good first take on what both of us had in mind for what we wanted to do. This episode has a theme on blogging and social media, so we invited Chet Justice of OracleNerd.com, and Christian Screen of ArtofBi.com, both of who have very active social personas in the Web 2.0 world.
We’ll be doing this every month, with two different guests each month, and we anticipate having each show be themed with the guests driving the theme, or vice versa. So keep your eyes open for additional episodes, and I hear we’re even coming to iTunes in the not-so-distant future.
