Review of Lyndsay Wise’s Book – Using OS Platforms for BI

So, when I got my hands on a copy of Lyndsay Wise's book (admittedly months ago, but just now having the time this last month to read it), Using Open Source Platforms for Business Intelligence, I was actually impressed that someone would take the time to write a book combining two of my favorite things: OSS and BI. Combined that equals, OSBI, by the way. I had a fleeting thought that the book might be full of fluff as the topic itself is fairly straightforward (at least to me) and there wouldn't be a way to write enough content without getting product specific or technical. I was wrong, of course, after thumbing through the index and several chapters.

Understanding Social and Collaborative Business Intelligence – Part 2

As you read in the first part (Part 1, Part 2) of this short series on Understanding Social and Collaborative Business Intelligence the idea of working as a team to make better decisions for an organization is not a new concept, merely the vehicle for that process has evolved. Furthermore, the idea of incorporating an Enterprise Social Network (ESN) into an organization's infrastructure and daily activity will soon become common place.

When deployed to WLS (problem doesn't exist when deployed to IBM Websphere) the WLS standard out (stdout) log for the Managed Server in which it is deployed constantly prints the following log message:

BITeamwork 1.8 (Nobel Release) – It’s Dynamite

BITeamwork has been out since Oracle Open World 2012 but since its involvement with several customers the product has evolved into a really amazing software offering. Clearly BITeamwork is the collaboration solution for Oracle BI which allows users to create dashboard comments, table and pivot table cell annotations, and then manage it all but it also has some amazing administration features. Actually, the roadmap for BITeamwork is to make up the gaps that customers see in the BI product such as custom metadata dictionaries, better management tools for ibots/agent, and a better caching system. Customers and implementers of Oracle BI should support the product now so that these items actually come to fruition.
